Video Project - Circle of Life
This project was created in Video Art: Experimental Investigations, a core study unit in my Electronic Music & Sound Design degree at the University of Western Australia. It is a comment on the decision of major supermarket chains in Australia (Woolworths / Coles) distributing promotional plastic toys to shoppers, shortly after ceasing to offer plastic waste recycling options in their stores.
I used a DSLR camera on loan from the university department to capture footage of the figurines being melted down, as a response and comment to the ‘collectible’ nature of the figures, mass produced to a ridiculous degree, which ultimately end up landfill. I used Adobe Premier to edit the recordings and set the video to the circle of life song from the Lion King movie, alluding to the life cycle of these plastic figures.
